March 11, 2020

Dear Calhoon Alumni Association Members, Family, Friends and Associates:

It is with great concern over the current health crisis regarding the Covid-19 virus outbreak that has caused me to pause the planning of the 2020 Alumni Association Reunion for a moment and to re-evaluate the path going forward.

What comes to mind are the SOLAS principles of Safety of Life at Sea that we as Merchant Mariners abide by to protect lives and assets when dealing with Merchant and Military vessels afloat. I now find myself looking at our upcoming gathering in a very similar way. While many members and their families live close or within reasonable driving distance to the school, there are large numbers of Alumni that would be travelling from the Pacific N.W., California, the Gulf Coast and the Northern & Southern East Coast. For many it will involve travelling through airports and long plane rides increasing the possibility of exposure to the virus both coming to and going home from the event.

Unfortunately, the only viable option I can pursue in order to try and protect everyone that would be in attendance is to cancel the event.

I realize that this is quite disappointing news but find it to be the best and safest course to pursue. I intend to revisit the planning concept again in mid-January 2021 pending the virus status at that time and will advise you all if I plan to kick start the process again for next year. Perhaps the change to an odd numbered year might be luckier for us!

Until then I wish all of you and your families GOOD HEALTH going forward. Please feel free to forward any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions to me at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Thank you!
