LICENSED CADET INTERN PROGRAM

 

The CMES Cadet Internship Program is only open to individuals who are currently attending a four-year maritime academy.  This includes individuals who graduate in June/July prior to the start of the Internship Program.  Applicants must have successfully completed at least their first three years at the academy.

When is the internship to be conducted?

We have blocked out three weeks during the summer.  However, we will try to accomodate for scheduling conflicts for those who can only attend for one or two weeks instead of all three.
 

During this three-week program, students will receive instruction in several of the following areas:

(PLEASE NOTE: Not all classes are offered every year.)
 

USCG OR MSC APPROVED COURSES - CERTIFICATES WILL BE ISSUED:
 

 

TRAINING IN THESE ONE-WEEK SUBJECTS ARE NOT COMPLETE COURSES - NO CERTIFICATES WILL BE ISSUED:
 

  • Diesels
  • Electrical
  • Machine Shop
  • Welding

 

Cadets are expected to bring:

  • business casual attire for in-class lectures
  • coveralls and/or work clothes for labs
  • casual attire for after 1600 hours
  • comfortable/sports clothes for swimming, boating, and/or fishing
  • a good attitude
  • a desire to learn
     

Required Documents

On the first day of class, participants must have in their possession and produce for inspection a government issued photo ID.
 

Arrival & Departure

Room and board at the school is furnished to any intern/participant while enrolled in the program.  Arrival time for a class is no earlier than noon Sunday before the start date.  Departure time is no later than 1700 on the final day of the internship session.  Students are free to leave following graduation, which takes place shortly before lunch on the last Friday of the program.
 

  • DORM ROOM KEYS:  Upon arrival on campus, all student should follow the signs to the Student Dormitory Check In area, where further instructions will be available for securing dorm room keys.
     
  • CAFETERIA:  Students arriving on campus the Sunday before class may eat dinner in the cafeteria between 1630 - 1800.  Breafast is from 0700 - 0815.
     
  • NO PETS ALLOWED
     

Orientation

ALL incoming students are required to attend orientation on the first Monday of class.  The registration process will be completed during this time.  Orientation begins at 0800 in the Newberry Auditorium located in the Administration Building.  Please remember to bring your photo ID with you.
