2017 Schedule of Online Courses

RADAR OBSERVER RECERTIFICATION ONLINE

This is a course designed for Deck Officers to practice the skills needed to successfully complete the practical radar examination requirements for Radar Observer (Unlimited: Renewal).

All students are required to set the final exam at either a Prometric Testing Center within the United States or at the Calhoon MEBA Engineering School.

    

Prerequisites: None

Special Requirements: Basic computer skills are needed to handle the requirements of an online learning environment.

USCG Approval: Any applicant who has successfully completed the Radar Observer Recertification Online (MEBAMD-717) course will satisfy the training requirements of 46 CFR 11.480(f) for maintaining the validity of an endorsement as Radar Observer.

    

TIMEFRAME FOR COURSEWORK:

While classes are scheduled in specific increments, students will work at their own pace.  Working within the time frame of the course, students are free to use the entire time allotted if needed, or to complete the coursework more quickly.  Though students will work at their own pace, they are expected to complete all assignments and, when required, to interact with the instructor.  Additional course-specific information will be sent to students upon successful registration into a class.

Students may register for more than one class in the same time period - however, please remember that a separate application form is needed for each class.  More detailed information is available on the admissions pages for online courses.

FINAL EXAM:

All students taking CMES online courses are required to take the final exam at a Prometric Testing Center in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands. After all coursework is completed, the student will be provided with the necessary information and authorization to schedule the final exam at a Prometric office location that is convenient to him or her.

  • Testing MUST be scheduled and completed no later than 30 days from the date that CMES contacts the student with authorization to test at Prometric.
  • The course certificate will be mailed to the student within 10 business days of successful completion of the final exam at Prometric, to the student's address of record at the time of course registration.

Students are required to bring the following items to the Prometric Testing Center for their exam:

  • Blank plotting sheets (maximum of 3)
  • Dividers (maximum of 2)
  • Triangles (maximum of 2)
  • Calculator (non-scientific)
  • Parallel ruler (no more than 1, if necessary)
