      3. Ship's Management

        • MEBA School Container Refrigeration Course (2 week)
      3. NS5 Training
      4. Maritime Security Officer (1 week)
        • MEBA School Vessel Security Officer Course
        • Approved Vessel Security Officer Course
           
      1. SECOND ASSISTANT ENGINEER

        OPTION 1: Second Assistant Engineer requirements completed under previous system

        1. Completion of Third Assistant Engineer Requirements (see below)
        2. Industrial Electronics (4 week)
          • Industrial Electronics proficiency test
          • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system by any method
          • Completion of the Analog and Digital Electronics requirement in the old Horizon system
          • Instrumentation (3 week)
        3. Welding OR Machine Shop
          Students must already have completed a requirement for EITHER Welding OR Machine Shop in order to have fulfilled the Third Assistant Engineer requirements.  The requirement that was NOT completed under the Third Assistant Engineer requirements must be completed in order to fulfill the Second Assistant Engineer requirements.

          • Welding (4 week)

            • Approved AWSD 1.1 Welding Certification


              OR

          • Machine Shop (4 week)
            • Proficiency test
            • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system by any method

      2. THIRD ASSISTANT ENGINEER
        1. Advanced Fire Fighting (1 week)
          • Any USCG approved Advanced Fire Fighting course
        2. Hazardous Materials Technician (1 week)
          • Proficiency test
          • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system by any method
        3. Electrical Troubleshooting (2 week)
          If the 2 week Electrical Troubleshooting course is successfully completed, credit will also be given for the Electricity course under the Maersk requirements.

        4. Marine Electrical Systems (4 week)
          • Proficiency test
        5. Welding OR Machine Shop
          Students must complete a requirement for EITHER Welding OR Machine Shop in order to fulfill the Third Assistant Engineer requirements.

NOTE: If you complete all the requirements for Third Assistant Engineer except Applied Diesels, you will be issued a certification for Third Assistant Engineer that will be good for Steam vessels only.

The Calhoon MEBA Engineering School is a private maritime educational facility for training members of the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association, as well as all maritime and related industry professionals.
